(19-9-1922 to 10-02-2004) Founder chief patron of the Society for Education of the Deaf & Blind
Mahajan Shri Perla Settyya Chetty was the worthy son of his worthy father Mahajan Shri Perla Ramamurty Shetty, who was the Zamindar of Waltair Estate and Founder of Perla Estate. The fame of Perla family of Vizianagaram was always noted not only for their philanthropic activities but also for the enrichment of music, literature, art, and culture. With a view to perpetuate his fathers fame, shri Settyya Chetty has created a trust in the name of his great father Shri Ramamurty chetty and extended a helping hand to a number of students, musicians, and organizations striving for the promotion and development of charitable activities.
During the tenure of his life he held a number of prestigious positions like President of Prema Samajam, and as an important member in reputed Organisations like Masonic Lodge, Kanyaka parameswari Devastanam, Sree Geeta Nritya Kalasala, Theosophical Society and as Chief Patron of our Society. As per the suggestion of the then District Collector Shri M.V.S.Prasad,I.A.S., he donated their building complex to our Society to run various schools for the physically challenged children,and made an indelible mark in the history of Vizianagaram.
The school for the deaf was christened in memory of his great father as Shri Mahajan Perla Ramamurty School for the Deaf. He has also donated from his Trust Rs.1,00,000/- as corpus fund to our Society and added another feather in the cap pf the great Perla Family of Vizianagaram. It is no exaggeration that these magnanimous donations to our Society have brought to his family an everlasting name and fame.
His sudden demise on 10-02-2004 was really a great loss not only to our Society, but also to all service Organizations in Vizianagaram. In memory of this great personality, an embodiment of charity and philanthropy, an open auditorium was constructed in our School premises on 16-03-2004 naming it as Shri Mahajan Perla Settyya Chetty Memorial Open air Theatre.
On the same day his illustrious son Shri Perla Rama Krishna assumed the post of Chief Patron ship of our Society and we do hope that he well follow the foot steps of his great dad and would strive to develop the Society taking it to greatest heights.
